If we had the chance, would we not have done everything the British did? Would we not now even surpass Israel in atrocity for the sake of our own country? I find it hard to see what morality there can be at all in war, nor can I see what right anyone has to their "ancestral homeland" beyond what they can take and defend. If we're to make common cause with Palestine the only real ground for it that I can see is that by doing so we can also further our own ends, rather than claiming some moral highground by virtue of failing to accomplish what our enemies have.

Depends. Are you a Catholic? I am. If you are Catholic, indiscriminate slaughter of civilians (mostly children) is wrong. That's not even getting into the fact that it's in the Holy Land.

This is a very late reply, I just want to make myself clear. What Israel is doing is wrong, by any moral metric. It hardly even serves their own interests in the end, it's simply madness. What troubles me is that we all have the same blood on our hands if we go back far enough. As far as I know, the people who inhabited Ireland before us only left the barest of marks on our genetic makeup. And today I wonder, if you're faced with the choice of having to cross the most stark moral lines and the survival of your people, what do you do? Maybe it's a contrived conundrum, but while I want to condemn Israel for betraying any sense of decency or goodness, which they have done, I don't know if we would or should be any better if push comes to shove. I admire the courage of Palestinians, but they have been forced to meet Israel in their savagery. But that isn't to defend Israel, they're the enemy of anyone who wants to keep the world from decaying to a point where a decision like that has to be made.
